Riding a bike is easy once you know how. You can watch videos and read books on how to do it, but acquiring the skill only comes once you start doing it.
In the beginning you will need a hand. You must start off with the right resources. A good, safe bike. It doesn't have to be expensive but the seat needs to be at the right height and the tyres need to be pumped up. A safety helmet would also be a good idea in case you hit a few bumps in the road and come off your bike. Perhaps you may even need trainer wheels for a while until you get your balance.
Writing is no different. You need to start with the right resources. A decent computer with Word is ideal. It doesn't have to be the latest Mac or top of the range PC but it needs to be reliable so that you can get your writing done.
Like a bike you need to adjust your seat. It's advisable to have a good table and a comfortable chair that will support your back while you write for long periods. As a sufferer of a bad back, I invested more into my choice of chair than I did in buying my laptop.
Bike riders should wear a helmet. A bump in the road can throw a rider off course; perhaps causing them to hit their head. Writer's heads also need some protection; usually from worry or negativity they face. Starting out as a writer can cause some people anxiety. Will this work? Will people like my work? Can I make money from my writing? To protect yourself from these doubts, have good supportive people around you. I'm a member of a Facebook group (as a result of a writing membership club I'm part of) where we support each other as we take the journey of writing. This is a great helmet for me and hundreds of others.
But to become a proficient bike rider or writer, we must first start doing it. The more we do, the easier it becomes. The more easier it becomes, the greater our confidence grows and the more enthusiastic we are to engage in this activity.
The best bike riders in the world compete in the Tour de France. They have spent countless hours on a bike riding. Similarly the best writers are those who have written the most words. Stephen King, J.K. Rowling and Jeffrey Archer to name a few, have penned thousands of words into novels; some of which have become best sellers.
If your dream is to write, then you must simply start. Once you get going, the easier it becomes. Writing really is just like riding a bike. Let the world read your voice. Now on your bike!
