Writing is very much like reading. You can get addicted to it. When you are addicted to it, try as hard as you can to maintain your addiction. Because your failure in maintaining your addiction will hamper your writing activities. Many ways to maintain this addiction have been proposed by professional writers, such as providing a special place, determining specific time, and doing certain rituals. But, surely there is no specific regime or recipe that suits all people in all situation. Everyone of us lives in a unique circumstance that requires specific way to handle. What can the motivation be to an author? The motivation can come in many forms, such as money, fame, backlink, or mere satisfaction obtained from seeing their work published. It is important for every author to have clear motivation to fuel their creativity and spirit in writing. The success of the first work is usually very influential to the productivity of an author. The first success will usually motivate an author to pursue the next successes.
What is the magnitude of a success? Well, it is something relative in nature. Every author has his own standard of success. However, if you are a greenhorn, you had better set your standard of success low, so that it will be easily reachable. For example, you can say that you are successful as an author if your work is accepted and published by a newspaper, a magazine, or an ezine. By setting a low standard of success for yourself, you can reach your goal easily and you can motivate yourself toward a higher standard of success without having to be too hard on yourself at first.
As you enjoy your success of being a published author, you will surely work hard to maintain your productivity in writing. You will motivate yourself to keep writing and work harder to achieve your higher standard of success.
