It is common for a work of writing by a greenhorn to be refused by a publisher. And the reactions towards this refusal vary. Some people may react negatively, while others react positively and wisely. Reacting negatively will not bring in any positive result. When one reacts negatively towards a refusal, he or she will narrow down his or her own chance of moving forward. Instead of blaming oneself for being refused, it is much better to evaluate why the work is refused and how to improve it so that it can be accepted and published.
When your work is returned or refused by a publisher, there are some possibilities that may cause the refusal, such as unsuitability of content, unsuited format of writing, poor grammar and poor expression. In considering the proposed writing, it is impossible for the publisher to adjust to a writer's needs. In stead, it is a writer who must adjust to the needs of a publisher. A wise writer will find out why his or her work is refused and makes any effort needed to improve the work and resubmit it.
In fact, it is much better to prepare your writing well before submitting it to a publisher rather than submitting it hastily and getting it refused. What can a writer do to avoid a refusal by a publisher? First of all, a writer must know the market of his work, sending the work to an inaccurate publisher will result in a refusal. When you know a publisher that maybe interested in publishing your work, you must study its editorial policy. Try to study its editorial guidelines carefully and follow the rules accurately before sending any of your work of writing. Make your work more than 90% acceptable before sending it over to the publisher.
Once in a while, your writing may be returned for some corrections. When this happens, take it easy. Take a positive attitude towards the request for correction, the editor may be better at grammar than you are. Do the correction seriously, your work will be much better and more publishable after the correction. Sometimes one reacts negatively towards the request for correction. This kind of reaction is based on the thought that one's work is already perfect, while the fact is that many mistakes should be corrected before it is publishable. A person with a positive attitude will be receptive towards the request for correction. He will consider the request for correction as a contribution to the improvement of his work, so he will not react negatively at all.
